REVERSE CAMBER PATENT WAR
November 18th, 2008
Maybe not exactly a war. A battle may be the best way to describe the situation. Then again maybe not even battle describes it well. Lets say a wooden sword fight.
Many of us have watched the story of Reverse Camber Technology unfold. First it seemed to be yet another crazy idea that came out of the Lib Tech labs. Along with other tech such as Alter Genetics and Magne-Traction, both which have proven to be rather successful to Lib (Mervin). So to many industry insiders it is with no surprise to see the growth of Reverse Camber tech on so many boards by so many brands. It’s obvious that Reverse Camber is here to stay.
With this demand it’s obvious that companies will be developing there own reverse camber technology and applying patents to their masterpieces. This is where the battle begins. It seems as if Lib (Mervin) has a rather general description of what their patent applies to. The patent really comes down to this. If a board has rocker between the bindings they may be crossing the lines of Lib’s patent. Either Lib just got lucky on there description of what reverse camber was or are very smart.
The bottom line is maybe some of these other brands are stepping on Libs toes while making their own versions of reverse camber. For those with flat sections between the bindings it doesn’t seem to be effecting the progress of there development. Such brands as Signal can keep on trucking with their development as they’ve chosen a different path with a flat base between the bindings. Their is a host of options out there if you want reverse camber on your new shred stick. We suggest a Signal for obvious reasons! Just for fun we’ve put together a few pictures to describe a few of the selections that you can choose from.

LANCE MOUNTAIN
October 30th, 2008
I was checking out Transtions web site the other day. On my journey in Internet land I noticed that StreetLab had a small party last Friday. It was a release party for some new Lance Mountain Nike SB shoes and a chance for people to get hooked up with some good deals. So how is Lance Mountain relevant to Snowboarding. Well he’s not but he is a living legend as far as skateboarding goes. Lance is my all time favorite skater. My first Skateboard was a Lance Mountain “Crest” Powell Peralta in white. Although only because the shop didn’t have a Cab. I skated that board to death. As I got older I was able to pinch some old stock from various skate shops in the States and Canada. My goal was to try and find all my favorite boards of the past but in still new condition. Not an easy task. I’ve got a few Lance’s in the collection and some very rare Lance Artwork as well. It’s cool to see someone like Lance still be influential in today’s skateboarding. Although his company The Firm no longer is around he’s still skating strong for Flip Skateboards. As for my collection well it’s still waiting to find a place on the walls of the Stuntwood office. Oh and by the way it turns out that Lance has some relevancy to snowboarding. Back in the 90′s Lance had his own pro model for a Company called Luxury Snowboards. So for you new school kids there’s a little history for you. Here’s some photos from my collection and some random Lance.
